What I can digitize

Different originals, careful methods

The goal is always the same: preserve the memory with as much usable detail as possible.

Printed photos

Loose prints and small collections scanned into high-quality digital images.

Photo negatives

Negatives scanned and converted into positive digital images for viewing and sharing.

Larger originals

Oversized photos, albums or fragile pieces captured with high-resolution photography.

Video too

Film and tape digitization

Home movies on reel film or cassette — converted to digital video files you can watch and share again.

8mm reel film

Film transferred frame by frame into a digital video file. Completed off site.

VHS tapes

Family videos, recitals and camcorder recordings transferred to a modern digital file.

Mini DV tapes

Digital camcorder tapes from the early 2000s preserved as easy-to-share video files.

Other video formats

Have Hi8, Digital8, Betamax or something else? Get in touch — I can usually help or point you in the right direction.

Capture

Printed photo digitization

Turn boxes, envelopes and albums of printed photographs into digital files that are easier to protect and share.

High-quality capture

Photos are scanned or photographed at an appropriate resolution based on the original and intended use.

Careful digital cleanup

Files can be straightened, cropped, color-corrected and lightly edited to improve presentation while keeping the original memory intact.

Original condition matters — heavy damage or advanced restoration may require a custom quote.

Digital files

Negative scanning

Bring images back out of negatives so they can be viewed, saved and shared again.

Digital positive image files, reviewed for orientation and basic presentation. Final quality depends on the original negative, exposure, age and condition.

Off-site service only

Video digitization

Old home movies deserve to be watchable again — whether they're on reel film or a stack of tapes in the closet.

8mm film is digitized frame by frame and assembled into a digital video file. VHS and Mini DV tapes are transferred to modern digital files as well. Because video transfer is equipment-dependent and completed off site, film and tape formats are not available as part of the on-site digitization option.

Have another format — Hi8, Digital8, Betamax or something you're not sure about? Send me a note and I'll let you know what's possible.

Capture

When it doesn't fit on a scanner

Some memories are oversized, mounted, bound in albums or simply too delicate for a standard flatbed workflow.

High-resolution photography

Larger-format items can be carefully photographed using a controlled setup to create a detailed digital reproduction.

Edited for preservation

The captured image can be cropped, aligned and adjusted for color, contrast and clarity while preserving the character of the original.

Choose your service

Two ways to preserve your collection

Choose the option that feels right for the quantity, type and sentimental value of your originals.

Pickup + off-site digitization

I pick up your photos, negatives, film and video tapes, transport them for digitization, and return the originals with your completed digital files. Best for larger collections and services that require more time or specialized equipment.

Free local pickup + return on projects $150+

On-site photo digitization

I bring a compact digitization setup to your home and capture a limited number of photos during a scheduled session, so your originals never need to leave your space. Available as an added-cost service with defined session hours and item limits.

Film and video tape transfer is not available on site. On-site service is intended for printed photographs and eligible still-image originals.

For the memories you'd rather keep close

On-site digitization, in your home

Some originals are too precious, fragile or meaningful to feel comfortable sending away.

Your originals remain in your home during the session.

Ideal for a smaller, curated set of especially meaningful photographs.

Scheduled by the hour with a defined maximum number of items.

Requires a suitable work surface, access to power and enough room for the capture setup.

Care matters as much as the scan

Handled like keepsakes, not bulk media

Photos and home movies can be irreplaceable. My process is built around careful handling, clear organization and getting your originals back to you.

01

Handle carefully

Originals are treated as personal keepsakes, not bulk media.

02

Keep organized

Collections stay grouped and files follow a practical folder structure.

03

Review files

Digitized images and videos are checked before delivery.

04

Return originals

Physical items are returned after digitization is complete.

Why in-person

Your photos never leave your hands — or mine

Many digitization services are mail-in only: you box up your originals and ship them off to a lab you'll never see or meet. 32North is different.

Personally handled

Every photo, negative and reel is scanned by me — not passed through an anonymous facility or outsourced.

Nothing shipped away

Choose on-site digitization and your originals never leave your home. Choose pickup and I personally carry them, door to door.

Before your collection is digitized

No perfect system required

A shoebox of mixed photos is still a collection worth preserving. If your photos aren't organized yet, we can keep the workflow simple and discuss the level of sorting you want included.

Group photos by family, event, year or album when possible.

Keep any notes, dates or names you want associated with a group.

Do not remove fragile photos from albums if doing so could cause damage.

Flag any especially important images or items needing extra attention.

Common questions

A few things clients usually want to know

Do my originals come back?

Yes. Digitization creates digital copies; your physical originals are returned.

Is my information and photos kept private?

Yes. Everything is handled directly by me from start to finish — your photos and personal information are never shared, sold or outsourced to a third party.

Can you digitize at my home?

Yes, for eligible still-photo collections. On-site sessions are limited by time and item count and carry an additional fee.

How long is the cloud link active?

Six months from delivery, giving you time to download, save and share your files.

Can you restore damaged photos?

Basic cleanup can be included. More involved restoration can be quoted separately after reviewing the image.

Can film or video tapes be done on site?

No. Film and tape transfer requires specialized equipment and an off-site workflow.

Can family members get copies?

Digital files can be duplicated and shared. Additional USB drives or keepsake products can be added when requested.

Meet Michelle

Why this work matters to me.

Memory digitization started with my own family — preserving photographs going back to 1910 and watching relatives relive moments they'd almost forgotten. That joy is what I want to bring to yours.
